Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
